Of Modern day prophecy and predictions
In the book of Matthew the disciples asked Jesus when the world would end. Matthew 24:4 Jesus delivered a message that still stands today. Mat 24:11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. Some one determined that men are now smarter than Jesus and that they are now able to see far enough into the future to know the end. I just do not believe it is possible for the creature to know more than the creator. Mat 28:18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
It also seems that some men are saying that the above scripture applies to those who claim themselves to be believers in Christ. The so-called sinners prayer, and self-proclamation does not place one in the will of God' and under the power of Christ. Mat 21:22 And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.
This teaching by Jesus may only apply to those who have obeyed his command. It is written that God does not hear the prayer of sinners, those who have not obeyed his command.
Pro 15:29 The LORD is far from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous. The teachings in some circles is that all one need do is believe and he or she is on a clear track to heaven. Mar 16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
There are some who only see Mark 16:17 as important and binding. In their zeal for miracles they take this teaching out of context. When I have a question concerning God's word I am inclined to open the Bible. I do not have much use for the many publication floating around with the intent of amplifying the bible. Most are just a sneaky attempt to introduce error into scriptural teachings. We must remember that those men who sat in the seat of Moses did that with the Law. I find that it is of a truth that those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it.
The prophet of the Old Testament proclaimed god's word as it was passed to him by God or through angels. The Bible tells me that in these last days God has caused his word to be written in a volume of the books known as the Bible. The writing of that volume was completed before the last of the Apostles who preached and wrote under the authority of Jesus Christ. That being the case how and why are men and women rising up and calling themselves Apostles and prophets today? Mat 24:4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.
Mat 24:5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.
That was said to the disciples as they sat at the feet of Jesus Christ. However, we find that the Apostles gave us the same warning. 2Th 2:11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
Going back and reading all of II Thessalonians we find that the church was warned about the workings of Satan to destroy that which the Lord has taught concerning false prophets and even false Christ's. I did hear a woman proclaim that she could perform the same works as Christ. She implied her dying and rising again.
At that moment she felt that she was so filled with the Holy Spirit that she had transformed to Christ. Mat 24:24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.
The gifts of the Holy Spirit are another hot topic for some people. I have seen classes offered on how to get the Holy Spirit. (Speaking in Tongues included) I have gone to the effort of learning to speak another human language. It does not happen in a session or two. The gifts of the Holy Spirit arrives when one obeys the Gospel as in Acts 2:37-41. There is no other way.
